This 9-week workshop is designed to hold space for queer, trans, and nonbinary writers to give and receive feedback on their works in progress in a safe and productive environment. Each writer can expect to be workshopped 2-3 times during the course, depending on class size. Submission max will be 10 pages per workshop turn.

This workshop is appropriate for writers working in any genre, including hybrid and experimental work. Since this is a multi-genre workshop, writers may need to be open to flexing their understanding regarding unfamiliar modes of writing and the instructor will support the group with baseline knowledge if needed to help guide discussions. Throughout this workshop, students will deepen their understanding of setting, characterization, plot, and writing finesse, ie placing the right word in the right place, effective tone, and tension.

Writers can expect to leave with verbal feedback from their peers and verbal and written feedback from their instructor  on at least two pieces of writing, as well as suggestions for how to move their work forward.  While no workshop experience is necessary, it is helpful to have at least one work-in-progress ready (or close to ready) to present when registering for this course.

*This class is intended for writers who identify as queer, trans, and/or nonbinary writers only. While novels that deal with queer, trans, and/or nonbinary themes are certainly welcome, they’re not required for this class.
